"Destini has combined her experience of immense trauma, loss, and growth into a roller coaster of emotions that will have readers rooting for her every step of the way. As a former foster youth, Destini helps us uncover the complexities of foster care and adoption, but also reminds us all of the importance of faith, healing, and where true freedom is found."

SYNOPSIS

Born into a family saturated with generational trauma, Destini’s case file with child protective services began when she was only seven months old.

In her own words and unique perspective, Destini shares her vivid and detailed memories of her experience navigating child abuse, kinship care, foster care and finding a future despite the broken pieces of the past.

Through all the secrets, confusion, twists and turns of her complex childhood, Destini's story is one of hope for trauma survivors...a hope that through consistent love, support, and faith in Christ, we all can be set free.

As a former school counselor at the high school level, I highly recommend this book for educators, social workers, counselors, pastors, foster parents and anyone who works with or cares for children who have suffered trauma. It would also be helpful for some youth who have experienced similar trauma because the book ends with a message of hope and freedom. Destini has a unique writing style that takes the reader into her mindset at every part of her story. This book has the opportunity to open doors of communication and hopefully can help to pave the way for a different experience for future children.
